Students in grades 8-12 are invited to audition for this fall’s Off Square Players production. (Read all about the Off Square Players, a student-run, professionally-managed production arm of Off Square Theatre, at this link!)
The Off Square Players team is excited to announce that they will be producing AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, Agatha Christie’s play adaptation of her best-selling mystery novel. The production will be produced by Jack Tobiason and directed by Phoebe Turner.
In AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, ten strangers are summoned to a remote island off the coast of Devon, each invited under a different pretense. But when a mysterious recording accuses every guest of murder, it becomes clear that no one is who they seem. Cut off from the mainland and with a killer among them, the guests begin to die—one by one—following the chilling pattern of a sinister nursery rhyme. As fear and suspicion take hold, everyone must confront the secrets of their past before it’s too late.
Students are required to pre-register for auditions.
AUDITION DETAILS:
- WHEN: Wednesday, September 16, 2026; 5:00-8:00pm (All auditioners should arrive at 5:00pm. You may be released early)
- WHERE: The Black Box Theater at the Center for the Arts
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Actors are encouraged to read And Then There Were None (LINKED HERE) before auditions.

Auditions will begin with a group warm-up, followed by readings from audition sides as directed. Actors are welcome to familiarize themselves with the sides ahead of time, but memorization is not necessary or expected.
KEY OSP DATES:
October 5 – First week of rehearsals
Rehearsals are scheduled M-F, 4:30–7:30 PM. Weekend rehearsals will be scheduled as needed based on cast availability.
Load-in – November 7 and 8
Technical Rehearsals – November 9-12
Performances – November 13-15
Strike – November 16 (after school)
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Thomas Rogers
Thomas Rogers is the first character to appear in the play. Rogers and his wife have been hired as caretakers of the eight guests who will be arriving. Thomas, a butler, has been put in charge of the household, attending to everyone’s needs. He is overwhelmed by his duties, displaying exasperation and ill will. Unfortunately, his wife is the main recipient of his frustrations.
Ethel Rodgers
While she is technically employed as a cook, like her husband, Ethel is expected to go beyond the scope of her position. Ethel is frail, nervous and overwhelmed. Trapped beneath the thumb of her demanding husband, she is unhappy and lost.
General John Gordon Mackenzie
General MacKenzie sticks out among the others and doesn’t seem to be comfortable socializing. One might suspect that he suffers from a guilty conscience. Defensive about the accusations directed at him, MacKenzie prefers to talk about the love and devotion he felt for his dear wife Lesley.
Sir Lawrence Wargrave
A retired criminal judge, Wargrave is a sober and rigid man of the law. Thanks to his many years at the bench, he is able to maintain a cool head even when circumstances become increasingly dire.
Dr. Edward Armstrong
Dr. Armstrong is a highly successful nerve specialist. He was invited under the pretense of treating Mrs. Owen. His demeanor is that of a weak and somewhat sorrowful person who can easily be taken advantage of.
Anthony James Armstrong
Handsome, youthful, from a wealthy family and oozing with superiority and little moral judgment, Anthony seems the least ashamed of his checkered past.
William Henry Blore
A former police officer from South Africa, Blore presents himself as wise and available to give advice to others. He is the first to act in a variety of situations, but his actions don’t always yield positive results.
Vera Claythorne
A former governess, Vera was hired to serve as secretary to Mrs. Owen, wife of the mysterious host. Intelligent and poised, Vera is at first excited by the prospect of this adventure, but her enthusiasm eventually evolves into an urgent desire to leave the island.
Emily Brent
Possibly the least likable character in the household, Emily comes off as righteous, judgmental and negative. Her rules for proper living allow for no exceptions.
Captain Philip Lombard
Captain Lombard is confident and self-assured and more than proud of his military service in Africa. He is flirtatious with Vera but treats her with a somewhat superior attitude. He misjudges her and is surprised by her capability.
