Students in grades 8+ are invited to apply for the Youth Musical Crew. Selected students will join the production team and/or crew for 2025s Thieme Youth Musical, Shrek: The Musical, and will gain invaluable experience as they learn new skills, collaborate, and have a ton of fun.

Students in grades 6 or 7 who are interested in backstage work are welcome to express their interest by filling out this form: GRADES 6 AND 7 INTEREST FORM Depending on the production’s needs, we may reach out to you if we need extra hands!

Applications are due November 1. Decisions will be communicated via email by December 1.

Job assignments will be made based on applicants’ experience and interest. Positions to be filled include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • RUN CREW: Students will learn all about backstage work as they handle sets, costumes, and prop pieces – ensuring that everything is in its place during the run of Shrek: The Musical 
  • LIGHTING ASSISTANT: Students will assist the Lighting Designer in executing their design and operating lights during the run of Shrek: The Musical
  • COSTUME ASSISTANT: Students will assist the Costume Designer in executing their design and assisting with costume changes, hair & makeup, etc during the run of Shrek: The Musical
  • STUDENT DIRECTOR/STAGE MANAGER (open to high schoolers only): Students interested in this position will join the professional artists leading rehearsals and performances for Shrek: The Musical. The selected student(s) will be required to attend all rehearsals and performances.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS – PLEASE READ!

All members of the Youth Musical Crew will be required to attend tech rehearsals and performances for Shrek: The Musical (February 10-23). Note that this will include rehearsals during the day on February 15 and 17 (Presidents’ Day weekend.) 

We do not hold rehearsals during school hours, but will have 2-3 performances for area schools that take place during the school day. Attendance at these performances is required (just as it is for our cast). 

Depending on your crew assignment, we may schedule time with you before February 10. 

TUITION: $250-$500 (depending on commitment), scholarships available
